Zoom invitation for 11 October

Kia ora koutou

(1)  We will meet on Zoom as usual this Wednesday at 10am: .  https://us06web.zoom.us/j/2591377907?pwd=RTFucEtlcitNYTNnRHZhSXZIQ0EzQT09

Those of us who attend regularly know that some people who do not want to meet on Zoom, or can't meet at this time. No worries - we will keep you on the mailing list so you can see what we are up to - no need to apologise.  But if you are on this mailing list and do not want to be, please let us know and we will remove you.

Niki and Elaine reckon that the topics this week are likely to be
  • election issues and discussion .. and
  • N4W developments and where to next .. and as usual
  • any other threads that arise.

(2) An update around N4W:   Interest in N4W continues to grow.  The idea of N4W Plus being a working group that looks after the development of N4W seems to make sense - it means that 7+ can just get on with looking after itself and take a supportive interest in what is helping elsewhere.

Most people who are on Zoom seem to have an interest in N4W+ .. so the following notes might be relevant to Wednesday's session.

This is the end of the email unless you are interested in more detail.

Ngā mihi

Elaine

Several people are interested in N4W who do not attend Zoom - no worries - we will continue to sort out ways of chatting and growing that suit us all.

2.1 About N4W .. The overall idea is that
  • N4W is a purpose that is shared - it is about working together to help each other, as individuals, in networks, and in the community.
  • So far we have fostered a few networks, each of which has Plus as part of its name - Seven Plus, Te Reo Plus, and now N4W Plus.
  • We are in the process of becoming Allied to some existing organisations: 3AF (through Flourishing), WEA (where we hosted on 1 October), Topical Interests Group (three of whom came along on 1 October).
Our conversation today needs to be about ways forward from here - planning what we aim to do in the next year or so - and gradually consolidating our language and ideas so that we can all talk freely about what we are doing.

2.2  Some writing ... A request came in yesterday afternoon .. I (Elaine) replied .. see below - .  . ..

08/10/23:

Hi.

Would appreciate if you could provide more information on networking for well-being. Thanks.

Kind regards,
Josephine

Hi, Josephine

Thanks for your query.

Networking for Wellbeing (N4W) is like a big idea.  It is not an organisation.  The idea is that by working together and networking with all sorts of people and organisations, we can help to address some of the big issues of our times.

N4W has varied networks that focus on different interests - these include
  • Seven Plus which began as a network for people who were dealing with the transition out of paid work into what lots of people do not want to call "retirement".  It has evolved into a network of people who commonly meet on a Wednesday morning for either "MeetUps" (various activities in different locations, exploring our city, or meeting over a cuppa) or "Zoom" (where some of us discuss whatever topics or threads of interest we want to talk about).
  • Te Reo Plus which attracts people who are shy of speaking Māori but would like to show their respect for Te Ao Māori (the Māori world) by improving their pronunciation in a safe space, and by chatting together about getting a better understanding of issues related to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi. And we tend to go places together occasionally, like visiting Ripapa island at Matariki.
  • N4W Plus is a bunch of people who see the value of forming networks that focus on bringing people together - not just for the sake of doing things together, but in the interests of helping Kiwis continue to strengthen collective well-being.  N4W+ is interested in seeing how we can encourage people to get hooked into the things that interest them in ways that suit them. We recall the way people worked together after the quakes and how neighbours, friends and families came together to support each other.
I could write heaps more, but I am happy that your question forced me to summarise some of the ideas that are evolving as we work together under the banner of N4W.  Please ping me a quick reply about the above - does it make sense?  What more would you like to know?  If you wanted to be part of a network, what would its focus be?  Would you like to meet with some of us for a chat?

Please give me a ring if you would like to chat.

Ngā mihi
